Damon turned to Cassandra. “When is their birthday?”

Her lips trembled before she answered. “June fifteenth.”

The date confirmed everything. Damon lowered his voice. “Are they mine?”

Cassandra looked at Luke and Violet. “Children, would you like to watch the cartoon Grandma downloaded?” Luke accepted the headphones reluctantly. Violet kept watching Damon over the elephant’s head.

Once the cartoon began, Cassandra spoke. “Yes.”

The single word erased three years of Damon’s life. He stared at her. “You had my children.”
