Chapter 4 — Step Away
I set down my glass and walked toward the stage, and every camera in the room turned to follow me.
“Step away from my husband,” I said.
Cressida wiped her lipstick from Rupert’s mouth with a slow, theatrical sweep of her thumb.
“Oh,” she purred.
“You’re still here?”
A few executives laughed — the practiced laugh of people who have learned that laughing with power is safer than staying silent near it.
Rupert’s face tightened.
“Cecilia.
Don’t embarrass me tonight.”
