The night I found the forged trust document, I nearly ended it early.
Rupert kept a safe in his home office, and he believed I did not have the combination, which was one of many things he was wrong about.
I had told myself I was only confirming what I already knew — the invoices, the hotel charges.
I was not prepared for what was actually inside.
It was a document transferring control of the Ellsworth Family Trust from me to my husband.
My authority, my grandfather’s firewall, signed away in a signature at the bottom that was almost mine.
