“He told you I was selling my car?” I asked.

“He said you didn’t need two cars if you were staying home with Maddie and the boys,” Heather said.

She pressed both hands over her mouth and looked down at the paper.

“He paid four hundred dollars from our joint account to cancel your old daycare contract,” I said.

“He told you I volunteered to quit my job.”

“He said you begged him to let you stay home,” Heather said.

“He told me you were overwhelmed at the clinic and wanted a reason to step down.”
