Traub says is the actual injury and which I have spent two years on:
I do not believe explanations any more.
Not in a suspicious way.
Not in a way anybody can see.
But when somebody tells me why a thing happened, some part of me, without being asked, notes that this is an account rather than an event, and files it, and waits.
It has made me better at my job and it has cost me two friendships and it is exhausting, and the person it is least fair to is a woman who has never once lied to me about anything.
