Terminal Four
I called two people we knew in common.
Neither knew anything.
One of them, a woman who worked with her at the foundation, said, “She resigned in the first week of May.
She said it was family.”
And I called my mother.
I want to reproduce that conversation because it is the one where all of it was decided and it took under four minutes.
I said Evelyn had gone.
My mother said she knew.
