The infant from Upward Sun River has already told us something that no other data source — not the archaeology, not the isotopes, not the stone tools, not any other ancient genome — had been able to show: that the founding population of the Americas included a branch with a distinct and ancient character, rooted in Beringia, that diverged from the ancestors of other Native Americans before the great southward expansion began.

That is a discovery that genuinely reshapes the story of the first Americans.

Not because it introduces a separate, non-Native population — it does not.
