One of the questions that the Hoyo Negro discovery naturally raises is the relationship between Naia and the Clovis technological tradition — the complex of fluted stone point making that, for much of the twentieth century, represented the earliest well-documented human technological presence in the Americas.

Naia’s remains were found in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Clovis sites are concentrated in North America, with the largest known assemblages in the Great Plains, the eastern woodlands, and the southwestern United States.

The geographic overlap between the Hoyo Negro site and the main Clovis distribution is limited — no Clovis sites have been firmly identified in the Yucatán or the broader Mesoamerican region where Naia was found.

Does this mean that Naia was not a Clovis person?
