The genome did not establish that Clovis people were definitively the first Americans.

By 2014, when the paper was published, the pre-Clovis evidence — Monte Verde, the Paisley Caves, and other sites — had already demonstrated that people were in the Americas before the Clovis horizon.

The Anzick genome told us something important about who the Clovis people were and where they fit in the American genealogy.

It did not settle the question of who preceded them.

And the genome could not speak to the vast cultural, linguistic, spiritual, and historical diversity of the hundreds of distinct Native nations that have lived in the Americas over the past twelve thousand years.
