They include foreshafts — the intermediate pieces that connected stone projectile points to wooden shafts in composite hunting weapons — as well as other objects whose specific functions are debated.

The foreshafts are particularly interesting because they provide direct evidence of the composite weapon technology that the famous Clovis stone points were part of: not standalone spear points thrust directly at game, but sophisticated projectile systems in which the stone point was hafted to a bone foreshaft that was in turn attached to a wooden main shaft, allowing the stone point to separate from the shaft on impact and remain in the wound while the main shaft was recovered and reused.

This composite weapon technology represented a significant engineering achievement for its time.

It required the coordination of three different materials — stone, bone, and wood — each worked with different tools and techniques, into a single functional system with multiple components that could be repaired or replaced individually.
