The Anzick genome does not directly answer every dimension of this question, but it firmly establishes that the Clovis people themselves were ancestral to modern Native Americans.

The genome also provided information about the child’s relationship to different regional populations of Native Americans.

The analysis found that the Anzick child’s genome was more closely related to Central and South American Native populations than to some North American populations — a finding that initially seemed paradoxical but that has been interpreted as reflecting the specific population dynamics of the Clovis expansion.

One interpretation is that as the Clovis population expanded rapidly across North America and into Central and South America, different populations in different regions differentiated genetically over time.
