The overall assemblage from Daisy Cave supports a picture of early Holocene Channel Islands people who were skilled maritime foragers, exploiting the rich marine environments of the kelp-forest ecosystem.

Other early Holocene sites on Santa Rosa Island itself document the expansion of human presence as the terminal Pleistocene gave way to the Holocene.

Evidence from approximately 11,800 to 11,100 years ago shows human use of estuarine shellfish and coastal marsh resources — extending the known use of such productive transitional environments well back before the Middle Holocene.

As sea level continued to rise through the Holocene, Santarosae began to break apart.

Anacapa was the first island to separate, approximately 10,300 to 10,900 years ago, as rising water engulfed the low-lying land that had connected it to the larger island.
