The Spirit Cave mummy from Nevada, dated to approximately 10,600 calibrated years ago, represents an individual from the Great Basin with a genome showing both connections to modern Native Americans and some distinctive features of early coastal populations.

This individual’s genome has been analyzed and contributes to the genetic picture of early post-Clovis western North American populations.

The La Brea Tar Pits woman (Pit 10), found in a late-19th century excavation of the famous Los Angeles tar pits and recently re-analyzed with ancient DNA, has been dated to approximately 10,000 to 13,000 years ago — the terminal Pleistocene to early Holocene.

Her ancient genome has been analyzed and shows connections to the coastal populations of the period.
