The modern chapter of the Arlington Springs story involves the return of the remains to the community with established legal and cultural connections to the Channel Islands.
In 2022, following a request under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Arlington Springs femora were repatriated to the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians.
The remains were returned for reburial according to the tribe’s customs and traditions.
