There is nothing in the physical object that announces its significance.

A person picking it up without any context would see a piece of old bone with some fragments inside it.

They would not see, without the context that the science has provided, what the fragments represent — the broken tip of an engineered weapon, the record of a specific human act, the oldest direct physical evidence of mastodon hunting yet found in the Pacific Northwest.

The science makes the object meaningful in ways that the object cannot make itself.
