The 13,900-Year-Old Mastodon Rib Found With A Bone Point Still Inside — And The CT Scan That Put Hunters Before Clovis
The date confirmed that the mastodon had died before Clovis.
It did not, by itself, prove that the embedded bone fragments were human-made, or that they were contemporaneous with the mastodon rather than introduced later by geological processes.
For that, different evidence was required.
Thirteen Thousand Nine Hundred Years
Before moving to the CT work that would finally bring the physical evidence into focus, it is worth dwelling for a moment on what 13,800 to 13,900 calibrated years before the present actually means in human terms — because it is a span of time that is easy to state and very hard to genuinely absorb.
