No diagnostic Clovis stone points were found at the Manis site.

This is significant: it means that the Manis evidence cannot be interpreted as Clovis hunting of mastodons.

The people responsible for the embedded bone point were not Clovis people, at least not in the technological sense — they did not leave behind the characteristic fluted stone points that define the Clovis tradition.

They may have used stone tools of other kinds, or their stone tools may simply not have been preserved or recovered, but the absence of Clovis points at a site that predates the Clovis horizon is in any case expected.

Other mastodon bones at the site showed various modifications that have been the subject of debate.
