The surviving lower portion of the Deultum dolium measured approximately one meter — about three feet — in diameter.

This represents only part of the original vessel, since the upper sections and rim were not preserved or were removed.

The full original vessel would have been substantially taller.

Dolia were typically not portable.

They were fired in place, or sunk into the earth up to their midpoints so that they stood stable without tipping.

In commercial contexts — taverns, wineshops, large villas — dolia were permanent fixtures, installed during construction and not moved.

They became part of the building’s infrastructure.
