Roraima is a mountain at the border of three countries, above the clouds, with vertical walls of two-billion-year-old sandstone, hosting species found nowhere else on Earth, significant to the people who have lived near it for as long as their traditions reach, and now known to the wider world through a combination of scientific discovery, indigenous knowledge, colonial-era exploration, and a famous Victorian novel.

It is not a lost world.

It is a found world — found again and again, each time by a different set of tools and purposes, each time revealing something the previous finding missed.

The rain is falling on the summit plateau right now, as it falls on more days than not.

It is running off the dark sandstone into the pools where the Utricularia bladderworts wait for prey.

It is washing over the Heliamphora pitchers and adding to the fluid in which insects will drown.
