This ancient person appears to represent a genetic lineage that was part of the same broad ancestral group as other Native Americans but that split from the lineage leading to the broader Native American population sometime before or around the time of the dispersal into the Americas.

The existence of this early-diverging lineage is consistent with a period of Beringian isolation during which the founding population had developed internal genetic structure before dispersing.

For the Bluefish Caves story, the genetic evidence is important in two ways.

First, it provides independent support for the Beringian standstill hypothesis — the genetic models point to an extended isolation of the ancestral Native American population in Beringia, exactly where the archaeological evidence from Bluefish Caves places people during the Last Glacial Maximum.

Second, the genetic evidence constrains who the Bluefish Caves people might have been in population-history terms: they were most likely members of the ancestral Native American population, or a closely related group that was sharing the Beringian landscape during the standstill period.
