It is, in its way, a remarkable inheritance.

The Beads And What Survives

The 120 bone beads from the MA-1 burial survive.

They are held today in museum collections in Russia, along with the other objects from the Mal’ta excavations and the skeletal remains of the child himself.

The ivory tiara fragment survives.

The bird carving survives.

The pendants and plaques survive.

These objects have outlasted everything else that the people of Mal’ta created.
