The burial was ceremonial.

Ceremonies have music.

The people who embalmed her and carried her mummified body to ceremonies before burial and finally placed her in the ground with six horses and a feast’s worth of food — they sang or played instruments or both.

Whatever those sounds were, they are as thoroughly gone as the Pazyryk language.

The Ice Maiden went into the ground accompanied by sounds we can never hear.

The art she was surrounded by — the visual component of the culture — survives in the frozen soil.
