The National Museum of the Republic of Altai, where the Ice Maiden now resides, is located in Gorno-Altaysk — the capital of the Altai Republic, a small city in the foothills of the Altai Mountains.

The museum was established to provide a permanent home for the Ice Maiden and the grave goods from her burial, following her repatriation from Novosibirsk.

The display environment was designed specifically for her needs: temperature and humidity control to maintain the permafrost-like conditions that preserve her remains, a sarcophagus that keeps her in appropriate conditions while allowing viewing.
