Modern scientific examination of the Ice Maiden’s remains has provided information about her physical health that adds another dimension to the picture — and that complicates the romantic image of a young woman in her prime.

The research conducted at Novosibirsk and subsequently has examined the Ice Maiden’s body using the tools of modern forensic medicine and physical anthropology.

The skeletal analysis provided the age estimate of around 25 and the height measurement.

But other findings were more sobering.

Analysis of the Ice Maiden’s remains has suggested that she was not in good health at the time of her death.

Researchers have identified evidence consistent with osteomyelitis — a serious bone infection that would have been extremely painful and potentially debilitating.
