She is the most famous of the Pazyryk mummies, but she is not the only one, and the other preserved individuals from the region add dimensions to the picture that the Ice Maiden alone cannot provide.

The excavations at the Ukok Plateau in subsequent years — following Polosmak’s 1993 discovery — produced additional preserved individuals.

Most significantly, a second frozen mummy was found in 1995: a man, similarly preserved, who became known as the “Warrior” or “Horseman.” His burial also contained horses, weapons, and evidence of high status.

The man had tattoos as well — and his tattoos are, if anything, even more extensive and complex than the Ice Maiden’s.

The imagery follows the same animal style vocabulary, with fantastical deer and predators depicted across his arms and body.
