We began with two teeth and the edge of the world.

We return there now.

The children who shed their teeth at the Yana River site were part of a community that was doing something remarkable.

They were living above the Arctic Circle, in the deepest cold of the Ice Age, by choice — or rather, not by choice but by capability.

They were there because their way of life worked in that place.
