The connection between the Ancient North Siberians and modern Native Americans requires careful treatment.

The genetic link is real — the research demonstrates that ANS-related ancestry is part of the ancestral mosaic that eventually produced the founding population of the Americas.

But “part of the ancestral mosaic” is not the same as “direct ancestor.”

The founding population of Native Americans was a complex genetic mixture that had coalesced in Beringia over thousands of years before the Americas were entered.

Into that mixture went East Asian-related ancestry, Ancient North Eurasian-related ancestry (as represented by the Mal’ta-type populations), and, through the Kolyma-type populations, a component of ANS-related ancestry.
