The study achieved something remarkable: the first complete genome from Old Kingdom Egypt, the first direct genetic evidence for the ancestry composition of a person from this pivotal period of Egyptian history.

What it could not do, by definition, is provide the broader context of variation and change that would require many additional genomes to characterize.

That broader context will come.

The research team has indicated their intention to expand the ancient Egyptian genomic dataset through collaboration with Egyptian institutions.

The technical capability has been demonstrated.

The interest — from the scientific community and from the broader public — is intense.
