The finished arrows had flint tips and feather fletching; the unfinished ones represented work in progress.

The bow, made from yew and 1.82 meters long, was also apparently incomplete — its final finishing had not been done, suggesting Ötzi was either in the process of making or repairing his bow when he died.

A small birch-bark container that had contained live coals wrapped in fresh maple leaves — a kind of portable fire-carrying vessel that allowed Ötzi to maintain fire through movement without the friction-drilling or spark-striking that kindling a new fire would require.

A retoucheur — a tool made of a small length of fire-hardened wood with a tip of antler — used for the fine finishing work of flint knapping, the process of shaping flint into tools and points.
