The assemblage of objects found with Ötzi at the discovery site — and subsequently identified in the surrounding area as the recovery process continued over several days — constitutes the most complete inventory of Copper Age personal equipment ever found.
Each object represents a specific choice, a specific technological tradition, a specific relationship to the Copper Age world of the eastern Alpine region.
The most famous single object is the axe. Ötzi carried a hafted copper axe: a blade of almost pure copper, approximately 9.5 centimeters long, mounted in a yew wood handle and secured with organic binding.
