One of the most important aspects of the Windover excavation was what it revealed about the technology of Early Archaic Florida — not the stone tools that are the default material of prehistoric archaeology, but the organic technologies that normally vanish entirely.

A relatively small stone tool assemblage was recovered, consistent with a mobile population that carried its tools carefully and did not accumulate large quantities of heavy lithic material at any single location.

The stone tools were functional and well-made — the people who produced them knew what they were doing — but they represent only a fraction of the technological picture that the organic preservation at Windover allows to be reconstructed.

The bone and antler artifacts from Windover are among the most significant finds from any Early Archaic site in the eastern United States, precisely because they survive at all.
