Glen Doran’s conclusion, as reported in later accounts including the Windover volume itself, was that the haplogroup frequency distribution of the Windover population does not match the distribution in any known surviving Native American population or any other known prehistoric group.

The Windover people carried mitochondrial genetic markers found in Native Americans broadly, but in a combination that appears to have been either lost or substantially diluted in the populations that followed.

The interpretation of this finding, as Doran described it, points toward one of two possibilities.
