Some individuals show evidence of dental infection, and in at least some cases those infections appear to have been treated — or at minimum survived — long enough for the bone to show remodeling responses.
Whether this represents deliberate treatment or simply survival long enough for the bone response to develop is difficult to establish, but it adds to the picture of a population that was not experiencing catastrophic attrition from infection.
