The Windover Farms development that originally motivated the construction work that discovered the site was built around the protected archaeological area.

The pond that once had nothing remarkable about it now sits within a neighborhood of Florida homes, known to the world as one of the most important archaeological sites ever excavated in the Western Hemisphere.

Artifacts from the excavation are curated at Florida State University and displayed at the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science in Cocoa, Florida, where visitors can see the physical evidence of the Windover community.

The museum’s collection includes woven textile fragments, bone and antler tools, and other materials from the excavation — objects that survived 8,000 years in a Florida pond and now sit in climate-controlled cases, still teaching.
