The most fundamental is the direct genetic question: what were the genomes of the ancient Texas populations, and how do they compare to other ancient and modern Native American populations?

At Buckeye Knoll, that question cannot now be answered from the physical remains, which have been reburied.

Any future genomic analysis would require samples retained before reburial, if any were preserved in institutional collections, or would depend on the extraordinarily long shot of successful DNA extraction from environmental samples — sediments or other materials from the burial context.

At Bering Sinkhole, the situation is less definitively closed.

The site was fully excavated by archaeologists, and the materials recovered were analyzed and reported.
