Faunal remains — the bones of animals — were recovered from various layers of the cave sediment.

Some of this material dated to the late Pleistocene, the final period of the last Ice Age, when the animals of the mammoth steppe still inhabited the Seward Peninsula.

The presence of late Pleistocene faunal material in the cave was not surprising — caves of this type on the Seward Peninsula were known to contain the remains of Ice Age animals, preserved by the cold and alkaline conditions of the cave environment.

Among the material recovered from Cave 2 was the tooth.
