The Account Under the Bed
“Anything he hands you tomorrow is going to help, not hurt — I’ve been told that directly.
What would hurt you is him realizing, tonight, that he’s been found out.
So you smile, and you sign, and you get on that plane, and you let me and the people I’ve called handle the rest.”
“And then?”
I looked past him, out over the dark water, to where the resort’s lights gave way to the black line of the ocean.
“And then we go home,” I said.
