Part Twelve: I Want Nothing From Them

I signed the papers on the hood of my Ford on the twenty-second of November 2006 with a carpenter’s pencil in my left hand and a biro in my right, and I used the biro.

And in the forty minutes I sat in that truck beforehand I constructed a position that I then held, without once examining it, for eighteen years and seven months.

The position was: I want nothing from them.
