The Accounting
A till receipt from a stationer on Fifteenth Street in Denver.
Three hundred and eighty dollars and change.
And at the bottom, under the payment line, it was not a card number.
It said:
CHARGE TO ACCOUNT — THORNE 1994 TRUST — FIRST NATIONAL DENVER — AUTH: A. THORNE, TRUSTEE.
I sat in the driveway of the brick estate with my ten-year-old son beside me holding six silver compasses in a blue velvet case and I read that line about four times with the green glow of the heater dial on it.
The Thorne 1994 Trust.
