I unclenched my hands.
I leaned toward my daughter, and I looked into her eyes, and I said the thing she most needed to hear, as clearly as I have ever said anything.
“Hannah.
Your mother’s death was never, ever your fault.
And you are not an obstacle to my happiness.
You are not making my life harder.
You are not a burden, and you never have been.
You are my daughter, and you are one of the two best things that ever happened to me, and there is no version of a happy life for me that does not have you right at the center of it.
