The answer to these questions requires more data than currently exists.

The Denisovan genome itself — extraordinary as it is — comes entirely from Denisova Cave.

We have no way to know how representative the Altai Denisovans were of the broader Denisovan population that apparently spanned much of Asia.

The Xiahe mandible from Tibet, and the genetic signal in modern Tibetan populations, suggests that Denisovans were present in diverse environments across a huge geographic range — but what those diverse Denisovan populations were like, how they related to each other, what their specific ecological adaptations were, is almost entirely unknown.

The question of Denisovan extinction — when it happened, why, and whether it was caused by competition with modern humans, by environmental changes, or by some combination of factors — is unanswered.
