The Second Denisovan Population And What It Means
One of the more recent and more consequential findings in Denisovan research is the identification of a second, distinct Denisovan population — separate from the Altai Denisovans represented by Denisova Cave specimens, and apparently responsible for the Denisovan ancestry found in Tibetan, South Asian, and some mainland Asian modern populations.
This finding comes from analysis of modern human genomes rather than from ancient specimens.
