The Altai Denisovans were one branch of a diverse lineage that spanned much of Asia.

Denny’s father was from that branch.

Other Denisovans — in Tibet, in Southeast Asia, in the islands of the Pacific margin — were from other branches, related but distinct.

The full diversity of the Denisovans is still being mapped, and each new piece of evidence — whether from ancient specimens or from the genetic signatures preserved in modern populations — adds another piece to the picture.
