The Nana Raid of 1881 is one of the most remarkable military operations in the history of the Apache Wars.

With a force of approximately fifteen warriors and several hundred miles to cover, Nana led his fighters through New Mexico in a lightning campaign that covered more than a thousand miles, engaged multiple Army units and civilian groups, and evaded every force that attempted to stop or contain them.

The military efficiency of this raid — its speed, its precision, its avoidance of decisive engagement with superior forces — was the product of exceptional leadership and exceptional individual capability.
