Before I could answer, Kobe noticed them. His smile faded — but he didn’t hide. He looked at me. “Can I talk to her?”
“Only if you want.” I nodded.
Sailor walked over while Mom stayed near the doorway, and held out the bag with trembling hands. “I’m sorry.”
Kobe glanced at me, then back at her. “Dad told me it would be funny,” she said softly. “He said you always got more attention than me. I wanted the console.”
Kobe touched the new crown on his head. “You made everyone leave.”
“I know.”
