Maddie looked at herself in the mirror. She saw the veil her mother had worn. The dress she’d saved for. The makeup she’d woken at five that morning to have done.

She saw a woman who had trusted someone and was about to be remembered only for the way he’d humiliated her.

If she slipped out the back, that would become the final image. The abandoned bride, fleeing. Tyler would own the ending as completely as he’d destroyed the beginning.

“No,” she said.

Frank gripped her hands. “No?”
