“Maddie, are you sure?”
“No.” She adjusted the pearl comb. “But I’m going downstairs.”
Chapter 3 — Downstairs
She walked into the ballroom alone. Every conversation stopped. One hundred eighty-seven guests turned toward her as she crossed the room in her wedding dress, carrying a bouquet meant for a ceremony that would never happen.
She reached the head table and placed the flowers beside Tyler’s empty chair.
Her aunt Marjorie approached with both hands extended. “Oh, sweetheart. I’m so sorry.”
Maddie raised one palm. “Please don’t give me condolences, Aunt Marjorie. Nobody died.”
