Maddie looked at the untouched cake, the flowers, and the dance floor where she’d expected to begin her marriage. “What’s the hourly charge?”
Martin named a figure high enough to make Eli wince. Maddie opened her purse. “I’ll pay for two hours.”
Eli turned toward her. “You don’t need to do that.”
“I know.”
Martin hesitated. “May I ask why?”
Maddie looked toward the empty bandstand. “Leave the sound system on.”
