He stood inside the door in the navy suit she’d chosen for him, his hands — scarred from thirty-two years of repairing furnaces and air conditioners — trembling around his phone.
“Dad?”
He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. Maddie rose from the vanity. “Did something happen to Tyler?”
Frank’s face crumpled in a way she hadn’t seen since her mother died. “He sent a message to Connor.”
Connor was Tyler’s best man. “What message?”
Frank looked at the floor. “He says he can’t do it.”
