Beatrice opened the balcony door at 6:29 p.m. and I opened it at 6:37.
I did not know, at that point, that this number would be read out in a room by a county attorney.
I only wanted it because I could not stand not knowing it.
Then I went back further.
The bracelet went missing on the Tuesday, two days before I got home.
So I scrubbed back forty-eight hours and I started at Tuesday morning, and I sat in a hotel bathroom with the door shut and the fan on so the light and the noise would not wake my daughter, and I watched.
